Charities' finance advice for young
23/02/08
Two UK charities have announced that they are teaming up to offer young people advice on how to manage their money.

Citizens Advice and YouthNet are working together to provide 16 to 25-year-olds with help handling their finances through the internet, mobile phones and podcasts.

The initiative, which is being backed by 300,000 from the HBOS Foundation, aims to help young people with basic budgeting skills, as well as to teach them the meaning of commonly used financial terms such as APR - which relates to the amount of interest people are charged on debt.

Financial advice specially tailored to meet young people's needs will be displayed in the 'Money' section of YouthNet's website, TheSite.org, while 30 fact sheets will be created for people to view on their mobile phones.

Audio versions of the advice will also be available for people to download and listen to on MP3 players.

The two charities, which are currently carrying out research to find out on what issues young people want and need to receive information, estimate their project could reach up to 500,000 people.

Targeted information arising out of the research will be available on the website later this year.
