It seems Arnold Schwarzenegger may not be in office for much longer. Although Arnie campaigned on a Republican ticket, his supporters are abandoning him and pleading for another actor to stand against him.
Step forward Mel Gibson. Although he’s never voiced any desire to run for office, Mike Spence, president of California’s Republican Assembly, wants to meet him. ‘We have to look for alternatives to the governor because he’s been behaving like someone who wants to go back to Hollywood.’ Spence says that Arnie’s appointment of a Democrat as his chief of staff was the last straw and they want a hardliner.
‘Mel Gibson has shown himself to be both fiscally and socially conservative and the success of The Passion Of The Christ shows that he has the ability to reach out to people.’ We hope Gibson stays reluctant. Arnie may (allegedly) be a serial groper, but Mel’s attitude to women makes Schwarzenegger look like a feminist.
