Ringo gives a bashing to Paul on drums
14/01/08
IT may be 37 years since The Beatles split but Ringo Starr admits he is still haunted by Sir Paul McCartneys occasional attempts to replace him as the groups drummer.

Ringo, 67, who last week opened Liverpools European City of Culture celebrations, confesses he was no fan of Maccas performances at the drum kit during the Fab Fours heyday. Paul, who has regularly banged the sticks for his subsequent solo recordings, played drums on Beatles tracks Back In The USSR, Dear Prudence and The Ballad Of John And Yoko. And when asked for his verdict on those ditties, Ringo replies: "I hide them. Ooh, that Paul!

"Every time I went for a cup of tea, he was on the drums. You couldnt get the bugger off. I wasnt there for those songs. It wasnt like I was in the room and he did it. Id left or something had happened, and so he would play. But hes not half as good as me. Hes an incredible bass player, but hes not a great drummer. George Harrison had his own way of playing drums, John Lennon had his own way of playing them, too. Theyd hit them about a bit but they couldnt really play."

Thank goodness they were not as rude about your singing, Ringo.
